Storytelling with Jessie Taken Alive-Rencountre: A Journey in Pride, Culture, and Courage

Join author Jessie Taken Alive-Rencountre, a Hunkpapa Lakota from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, for a reading of her title Thunder’s Hair ! Hear the story, learn the inspiration for the book and discover important cultural elements included in the story. You will leave the session knowing the history and teachings of long hair, but also a sense of pride for yourself and feeling empowered to be a “modern-day warrior” in helping those around us.

About the Presenter

Jessie has worked as a school counselor for 15 years. She was named the Great Plains Emerging Tribal Writer’s Award winner for her first children’s book Pet’a Shows Misun the Light. Using her teachings from her Lakota culture combined with a school counselor lens, she has published seven children’s books, with more in the works. Her passion is to help people remember their importance in life and to utilize their unique talents to create better communities for future generations to come.
