Travel South on Farwell Street until you hit Garfield Avenue. From 1882 until 1919, straight ahead was the entrance to the Circus Grounds, Racetrack and ballfield, an open area, three blocks square. A grandstand built in 1902 held nineteen hundred people. It was the site of some of Eau Claire’s most dramatic public events, including the death by lightning of Ella. the bicycle-riding elephant.
